Description

Product Description Marine Hydrocarbon Spill Assessments: From Risk of Spill through to Probabilities Estimates describes the methods used for estimating hydrocarbon spill risks and the potential consequences. Throughout the book, mathematical methodologies and algorithms are included to aid the reader in the solving of applied tasks presented. Marine Hydrocarbon Spill Assessments: From Risk of Spill through to Probabilities Estimates provides a fundamental understanding of the oil properties and processes which determine the persistence and impacts of oils in the marine environment. It informs the reader of the current research in hydrocarbon spill assessments, starting from an assessment of a risk of a spill, and moving on to modelling approaches to impact assessments, laboratory toxicity assessments, field impact assessments and response options, and prevention and contingency planning. Review Presents approaches and methodologies, including applied techniques, to assessments of hydrocarbon spills in marine environments, from near-shore to the open ocean From the Back Cover
Marine Hydrocarbon Spill Assessments: From Baseline Information through to Decision Support Tools describes the necessary data and state-of-the-art numerical methods and laboratory methodologies used for estimating hydrocarbon spill risks and the potential consequences. The book is a response to the market need for obtaining a comprehensive and up to date source of information on the considered subjects. The goal of the book is to inform the reader (e.g. scientists and students, industry professionals, regulators, decision makers and interested public) of the current state of affairs in hydrocarbon spill assessments, starting from an assessment of a risk of a spill, through to modelling approaches to impact assessments, laboratory assessments, field impact assessments and response options, and prevention and response planning and software decision support tools. The book provides a fundamental understanding of the oil properties and processes which determine the persistence and impacts of oils in the marine environment. Throughout the book, mathematical methodologies and algorithms are provided to aid the reader in the solving applied spill assessment tasks.
About the Author Dr. Oleg Makarynskyy has over 25 years’ experience and extensive skills in the fields of ocean and coastal program development and project management, numerical modelling, data analysis, as well as quantitative project risk assessments. Over the years, Oleg collaborated with and led research and industry project teams in Australia, USA, Asia and Europe. His particular interests currently are in risk assessments, including risks of hydrocarbon spills, and in developing integral approaches and programs for open-ocean and coastal hydrocarbon spill assessment studies.
