Nanostructured Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine focuses on the definition of new trends for the design of biomaterials for biomedical applications. For each class, emerging bioinspired systems with rapid expansion in the biomedical research area and fabricated via new enabling technologies will be proposed for the use in tissue repair/regeneration and nanomedicine. This book is an essential resource for researchers, academics and professionals interested in the potential of nanostructured biomaterials for regenerative medicine. The book begins with an introduction to biomaterials for regenerative medicine and a discussion on their current and future potential. Next, chapters cover polymers and composites, enabling technologies and their potential and emerging applications for regenerative medicine. Part 2 looks at strategies for manipulating polymers as well as a range of applications whilst the final set of chapters covers metals, their properties and their subsequent enabling technologies for tissue repair and regeneration. This book is an essential resource for researchers, academics and professionals interested in the potential of nanostructured biomaterials for regenerative medicine. About the Author Vincenzo Guarino is Senior Researcher at the Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials, National Research Council of Italy, Naples, Italy. His research interests include biomaterials, tissue engineering, scaffold design, and the fabrication and characterization of polymer and composite materials for biomedical applications. Michele Iafisco is a researcher at Institute of Science and Technology for Ceramics (ISTEC) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Faenza (RA), Italy since 2013. He graduated in Chemistry in 2005 from the Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna. From the same university he obtained the Ph.D. degree in Chemical Science in April 2009. His research interests include biomaterials, biomineralization, nanomedicine, calcium phosphates and bioceramics. He has authored more than 90 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 15 book chapters and 6 patents. He is member of the editorial boards of several international journals and expert evaluator for the European Commission and for other European research agencies. In 2015 he was recipient of the prize “Ricercatamente 2014 for the best research activity of most promising young researcher “under 35 at the National Research Council of Italy in the field “Chemical Sciences and Materials Technology" and of the IUPAC-2015 Young Chemist Travel Award.
