He received his BSc in 1982 from Donghua University and PhD in 1985 from the University of Leeds. He worked up the ranks to become Professor at Donghua University, before moving to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1992. Dr. Miao joined the Wool Research Organization of New Zealand (WRONZ) as a research leader in 1996, and then CSIRO as a principal scientist in 2006. John Xin is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a Charted Colourist of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, UK, and a panel member of the International Editorial Board of Coloration Technology published by the Society of Dyers and Colourists. Prof. Xin's main teaching and research interests include functional and smart textile and garment treatments, new functional material synthesis, nano-encapsulation systems with controllable release, coloration technology, colour science, including colour measurement and quality control, colour communication technology. He has published over 300 book chapters, SCI journal papers, conference proceedings, and patents, and has been invited as keynote speakers and session chairs at numerous international conferences.
