Description

This is widely regarded as the most communicative text available for beginning French courses. Based on the Natural Approach, developed by Tracy Terrell and Stephen Krashen, "Deux Mondes" offers beginning language students a way to develop language proficiency, especially in listening and speaking, that allows them to paricipate in real conversations at a very early stage. The Natural Approach in general, and "Deux Mondes" in particular, present material inductively (so that the activities drive the grammar) and in the context of culturally rich themes and topics. Students quickly become excited with their rapid growth in comprehension and vocabulary acquisition, and enjoy speaking in the non-threatening environment made possible by the activity formats. The organization and use of the white-page activities are presented more clearly with a new system that facilitates lesson planning. They are now categorized into 14 rubrics. There is a more lively look-and-feel within the white pages, with more colour, graphics and art to stimulate visual learning. The readings in the fourth edition are even more culturally interesting and focus on real people. From the Publisher The organization and use of the white-page activities are presented more clearly with a new system that facilitates lesson planning. They are now categorized into 14 rubrics. In the student edition, each has a title indicating its rubric. The suggested methodology and purpose for each rubric are clearly explained in the Instructor's Manual, along with sample lesson plans for each rubric, based on specific activities in the Fourth Edition student text. There is a more lively look-and-feel within the white pages, with more color, graphics and art to stimulate visual learning. And, every chapter in the Fourth Edition has richer variety of white-page activity types. All chapters are updated in content and subject matter. Chapitre 11, Les moyens de communication, has also undergone strong revision to accommodate the technological advancements in society in general. More realia-based activities. Two new in-text web-based features: Cliquez là! (click there) is a unique new web feature that enhances several activities and readings in each chapter. This feature guides students to do basic research on their own, often to meet a simple need such as finding a hotel or making a purchase. Cliquez là! activities can be assigned as homework or used for personal browsing. Le Web vous attend! (The web awaits you!) are new end-of-chapter web activities which refer students to the McGraw-Hill website in order to complete the activities. Different from Cliquez là!, they function as realia. Here one finds activities keyed to chapter themes, additional readings and realia, self-tests, additional grammar exercises, and more. The readings in the Fourth Edition are even more culturally interesting and focus on real people. There is now one Info per chapter and two new reading features have been added. The first, "Les francophones sur le vif"!, (Francophones in daily life) offers short interviews with native speakers from around the world. The second, "La langue en mouvement"!, (Language in motion) is also a short text highlighting particular aspects of the French language which ties them into current Francophone culture.Several Grammaire sections have been rearranged to accommodate new fourth-edition functional needs. The ATE margin notes for instructors in the Grammaire have been enriched and expanded. The Student Text margin notes for student use have been revised and improved. There is a new student CD-ROM that correlates with the text that contains a large selection of interactive activities, cultural notes and the Vocabulaire sections. It also includes the MHELT, verb charts, and a useful talking dictionary.A New Website offers cultural links and the opportunity for students to self-quiz with additional vocabulary and grammar practice. The Natural Approach is
