Finding My Way Home

The debut release from young British trumpet player, Yazz Ahmed who has been tipped as a rising star by Jazzwise and Time Out. On 'Finding My Way Home' Yazz explores the contrasting soundscapes of her Arabic heritage, reflecting on her childhood in Bahrain, and classic jazz from the 1950s/60s that formed the soundtrack to her teenage years, in this collection of original compositions and improvisations. Yazz has made a real impact on the UK Jazz scene since leaving the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2006. She won great reviews for her Ronnie Scott's debut, is a member of Tomorrow's Warriors and played flugelhorn on the Radiohead album 'The King of Limbs'. Her grandfather, Terry Brown, was a jazz trumpeter, playing alongside Tubby Hayes and in the John Dankworth Seven. Yazz picked up the trumpet inspired by the music and stories Terry shared with her. 'Finding My Way Home' features bass guitar virtuoso, Janek Gwizdala in a series of intimate duets. Alongside "Affirmation", "Birthdays, Birthdays" and "So What", they recorded four spontaneous compositions, utilizing Arabic scales. The album also features acclaimed clarinettist Shabaka Hutchings and bassist Laurence Cottle.
